Twelve Main Reasons Given for Sunday Worship Examined

Dear brothers and sisters, as the end is near we know that the controversy between God's Sabbath and Sunday will continue to increase in intensity.  So we have decided to help our readers be better prepared to be able to clearly answer those who try to give reasons why Sunday and not Saturday is God's Sabbath day.  In examining these reasons, we have found that there are 12 main reasons given for support.  We will examine each of these reasons, and then give a simple Bible-based answer showing why it is not a valid reason to support the supposed change to Sunday.  But first let us give some introduction.

Sunday, the first day of the week, is heralded today as the "Christian Sabbath".  But it has not always been so!  Since ancient times, Sunday has been a day in which pagans, witches, shamans, and other occult and spiritualistic peoples worshipped the sun, hence the name--Sun-day.  It was not a day to worship the God of heaven, but to worship the god of this earth--Lucifer or Satan or the devil, and can be traced all the way back to ancient Babylon and Nimrod.
As the first day of the week is almost universally observed by Christians today instead of the seventh day Sabbath of creation which the Creator required that we must remember to keep holy (see Genesis 2:2-3; Exodus 20:8-11), the question needs to be asked: When was this change made?  The Roman Catholic Church states:
"Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century.  The holy day, the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday.  'The day of the Lord' was chosen, not from any direction noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church's sense of its own power....People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically...keep Saturday holy." St. Catherine Church Sentinel, Algonac, Michigan, May 21, 1995.

"Some theologians have held that God likewise directly determined the Sunday as the day of worship in the New Law, that He Himself has explicitly substituted the Sunday for the Sabbath.  But this theory is now entirely abandoned.  It is now commonly held that God simply gave His Church the power to set aside whatever day or days she would deem suitable as Holy Days.  The Church chose Sunday, the first day of the week, and in the course of time added other days as holy days." John Laux, A Course in Religion for Catholic High Schools and Academies, 1936 edition, vol. 1, p. 51.

"The Catholic church for over one thousand years before the existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday....The Protestant World at its birth found the Christian Sabbath too strongly entrenched to run counter to its existence; it was therefore placed under the necessity of acquiescing in the arrangement, thus implying the (Catholic) Church's right to change the day, for over three hundred years.  The Christian Sabbath is therefore to this day, the acknowledged offspring of the Catholic Church as spouse of the Holy Ghost, without a word of remonstrance from the Protestant World." James Cardinal Gibbons in the Catholic Mirror, September 23, 1893.
"Question - Which is the Sabbath day?
"Answer - Saturday is the Sabbath day.
"Question - Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
"Answer - We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church...transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday." Peter Geiermann, C.S.S.R., The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50, 3rd edition, 1957.

So we find that the Roman Catholic Church has changed God's Sabbath day to Sunday.  But on whose power or authority was God's Sabbath of the fourth commandment changed from Saturday to Sunday?  Roman Catholicism proudly declares:
"The authority of the church could therefore not be bound to the authority of the Scriptures, because the Church had changed...the Sabbath into Sunday, not by command of Christ, but by its own authority." Canon and Tradition, p. 263.

"Is Saturday the seventh day according to the Bible and the Ten Commandments?  I answer yes.  Is Sunday the first day of the week and did the Church change the seventh day - Saturday - for Sunday, the first day?  I answer yes.  Did Christ change the day'?  I answer no!"
"Faithfully yours, J. Card. Gibbons." James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, Md. (1877-1921), in a signed letter.

"From this we may understand how great is the authority of the church in interpreting or explaining to us the commandments of God - an authority which is acknowledged by the universal practice of the whole Christian world, even of those sects which profess to take the holy Scriptures as their sole rule of faith, since they observe as the day of rest not the seventh day of the week demanded by the Bible, but the first day.  Which we know is to be kept holy, only from the tradition and teaching of the Catholic church." Henry Gibson, Catechism Made Easy, # 2, 9th edition, vol. 1, p. 341-342.

"For example, nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday.  We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is the 7th day of the week, Saturday.  Today most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the [Roman Catholic] church outside the Bible." Catholic Virginian, October 3, 1947, p. 9, article "To Tell You the Truth."

"Written by the finger of God on two tables of stone, this Divine code (ten commandments) was received from the Almighty by Moses amid the thunders of Mount Sinai...Christ resumed these Commandments in the double precept of charity--love of God and of the neighbour; He proclaimed them as binding under the New Law in Matthew 19 and in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5)....The (Catholic) Church, on the other hand, after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath, or seventh day of the week, to the first, made the Third Commandment refer to Sunday as the day to be kept holy as the Lord's Day." The Catholic Encyclopedia, vol. 4, "The Ten Commandments", 1908 edition by Robert Appleton Company; and 1999 On-line edition by Kevin Knight, URL: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04153a.htm), Imprimatur, John M. Farley, Archbishop of New York.

"...Had she not such power, she could not a done that in which all modern religionists agree with her; -she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day of the week, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority." Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism On the Obedience Due to the Church, 3rd edition, Chapter 2, p. 174 (Imprimatur, John Cardinal McCloskey, Archbishop of New York).

Since the Roman Catholic Church claims her own power and authority to change the worship day of God from Saturday-the seventh-day of the week to Sunday-the first day, and not the power and authority of God as found in His Scriptures, then Sunday is purely and only a worship day created by the Roman Catholic Church and not God!  And the Catholic Church is not afraid to admit this!
"Is not every Christian obliged to sanctify Sunday and to abstain on that day from unnecessary servile work?  Is not the observance of this law among the most prominent of our sacred duties?  But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday.  The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify." James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of Our Fathers (1917 edition), p. 72-73 (16th Edition, p 111; 88th Edition, p. 89).

"They [the Protestants] deem it their duty to keep the Sunday holy.  Why?  Because the Catholic Church tells them to do so.  They have no other reason....The observance of Sunday thus comes to be an ecclesiastical law entirely distinct from the divine law of Sabbath observance....The author of the Sunday law...is the Catholic Church." Ecclesiastical Review, February, 1914.

"The Sunday...is purely a creation of the Catholic Church." American Catholic Quarterly Review, January, 1883.

"Sunday...is the law of the Catholic Church alone..." American Sentinel (Catholic), June, 1893.

"Sunday is a Catholic institution and its claim to observance can be defended only on Catholic principles....From beginning to end of Scripture there is not a single passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public worship from the last day of the week to the first." Catholic Press, Sydney, Australia, August, 1990.

Now members of the Catholic Church have been taught to recognize the authority of the Pope and their church as being greater than the authority of God, and thereby feel perfectly satisfied in observing the commandment of Rome in keeping holy the first day of the week.  But the members of the various Protestant Churches deny the authority of the church of Rome.  Yet they continue to worship on Sunday--a day for which the Catholic church alone claims authority to make holy.  Thus, whether or not Protestants will admit it, by continuing to worship on Sunday they are obeying the commandment of the Roman Catholic Church and its Pope and not the commandment of God!
"It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday.  Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church." Priest Brady, in an address reported in The News, Elizabeth, New Jersey, March 18, 1903.

By obeying the commandment of Rome and not of God, Sunday-keeping Protestants are bowing down and paying homage to the Pope of Catholicism, and not to the God of heaven--and Rome clearly understands this!
"It was the Catholic church...which has transferred this rest to Sunday in remembrance of the resurrection of our Lord.  Therefore the observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the Catholic church." Monsignor Louis Segur, Plain Talk About the Protestantism of Today, p. 213.

"Protestants...accept Sunday rather than Saturday as the day for public worship after the Catholic Church made the change...In observing the Sunday, they are accepting the authority of the spokesman for the church, the Pope." Our Sunday Visitor, February 5, 1950.

"I have repeatedly offered $1,000 to anyone who can prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy.  There is no such law in the Bible.  It is a law of the holy Catholic Church alone.  The Bible says, 'Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.' The Catholic Church says: 'No.  By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week.'  And lo!  The entire civilized world bows down in a reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church." father T. Enright, C.S.S.R. of the Redemptoral College, Kansas City, in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas, February 18, 1884, printed in History of the Sabbath, p. 802.
Most Protestants are honestly trying to serve and worship God to the best of their knowledge and ability, and are ignorant of this dilemma.  Yet when confronted with the truth regarding Sunday worship being only a commandment of Rome and not of God, many attempt to justify the change from Saturday to Sunday upon Biblical reasons.  But not a single text clearly states that God has changed His Sabbath to the first day of the week!  How then, can they dare to exalt the first day of the week above the Sabbath of the Lord, and yet claim to be serving and worshipping God and not the Pope?  And whether they realize it or not, the great majority of their arguments in trying to validate Sunday worship originated from Catholic sources! (For proof of this see our article on Catholic Arguments at http://www.lightministries.com/id312.htm).

There are several main reasons urged for the observance of the first day of the week, instead of the Sabbath of the Bible, which we will here examine.

First Reason:

"Redemption is greater than creation; therefore, we ought to keep the day of Christ's resurrection instead of the ancient Sabbath of the Lord."

Where has God said this?  It is no where to be found in God's word.  What right then, has any man to make such an assertion and then to base the change of the Sabbath upon it?  God never required men to keep any day as a memorial of redemption.  But He did command us to keep holy the seventh day Sabbath as a memorial of creation thereby recognizing God as our Creator.
If however, it were a duty to observe one day of the week for this reason, most certainly the crucifixion day presents the strongest claims.  It is not said that we have redemption through Christ's resurrection, but it is said that we have redemption through the shedding of His blood (see Revelation 5:9; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14; Hebrews 9:12,15).  The wonder of the act of God the Father in giving His beloved and only begotten Son to die for a race of rebels was a spectacle of redeeming love on which the universe might gaze in wonder throughout all eternity.  Who could wonder that the sun was veiled in darkness and that all nature trembled at the sight!  Friday, the crucifixion day, therefore, has far greater claims than the day of the resurrection; but God has not enjoined the observance of either.
If we would commemorate redemption, there is no necessity of robbing the Lord's rest day of its holiness in order to do it.  For God has provided us with memorials for this event (see 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

Second Reason:

"The disciples met on the day of our Lord's resurrection to commemorate that event, and the Saviour sanctioned this meeting by uniting with them (See John 20:19)."

Even were this true, it would not prove that the Sabbath of the Lord has been changed.  For several days the disciples did not believe that their Lord had been raised from the dead, but were assembled for the purpose of eating a common meal and to seclude themselves from the Jews (see Mark 16:12-14; John 20:19).  So the disciples were not commemorating the resurrection of the Saviour, and it is equally evident that they had not the slightest idea of a change of the Sabbath.  They kept the Sabbath, according to the commandment, and resumed their labor on the first day of the week (see Luke 23:55-56, 24:1).

Third Reason:

"`After eight days,' Jesus met with His disciples again (see John 20:26).  This must have been the first day of the week, which is thereby proved to be the Christian Sabbath."
Who can be certain that "after eight days" means just a week?  A literal construction of the language would lead one to conclude that this was upon the ninth day "after eight days" were passed.

But even if "after eight days" means only a literal week, how does this prove that Sunday has become the "Christian Sabbath" when there is not a particle of evidence that either Christ or His apostles ever rested on that day?  There is no such term as Christian Sabbath found in the Bible.  The only weekly Sabbath named in the Bible is called the Sabbath of the Lord--the seventh day (see Genesis 2:2-3).
It should not be very remarkable that Christ should find His disciples together, inasmuch as they had one common abode (see Acts 1:13).

Fourth Reason:

"The Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples on the day of Pentecost, which was the first day of the week. Therefore, the first day of the week should be observed instead of the Sabbath of the Lord (see Acts 2:1-2)."

Admitting that the day of Pentecost occurred upon the first day of the week, it remains to be proven that this day thereby became the Sabbath.  It was the feast of Pentecost, and not the first day of the week, that God designed to honor.
The day of Pentecost is distinctly named, but the day of the week on which it occurred is passed by in silence.  It was not the design of Heaven to honor the first day of the week, but to mark the anti-type of the feast of Pentecost.
The slaying of the paschal lamb on the fourteenth day of the first month had met its anti-type in the death of the Lamb of God on that day (see Exodus 12; John 19; 1 Corinthians 5:7).  The offering of the firstfruits on the sixteenth day of the first month had met its anti-type in the resurrection of our Lord on that day, the firstfruits of them that slept (see Leviticus 23; 1 Corinthians 15:20-23; Acts 1:1-2).  And the outpouring of the Holy Ghost on Pentecost fulfilled the type of the feast of Pentecost.  It was not the day in which these events occurred that was of importance, but that these ancient symbolic ceremonies and services were meeting their fulfillment in type.

God spoke nothing in this place respecting the day in which these events occurred, and thus no proof exists for a change in the time of God's Sabbath.  "Add thou not unto His words, lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar" Proverbs 30:6.

Fifth Reason:

"Paul once broke bread upon the first day of the week.  Hence this day was observed as the Christian Sabbath (see Acts 20:7)."

At one period the Apostolic church at Jerusalem broke bread every day (see Acts 2:42-46).  If a single instance of breaking bread at Troas upon the first day of the week constituted it the Sabbath, would not the continued practice of the Apostolic church at Jerusalem in breaking bread on other days be sufficient to make these days a Sabbath also?
Why try to grasp at a single instance in which an evening meeting was held on Sunday, and then try to vainly prove that the Sabbath has been changed, while overlooking the fact that this same apostle Paul preached every seventh day Sabbath, not only to the Jews, but also to the Gentiles? (See Acts 13:14,42,44, 16:13, 17:2, 18:4.)

Sixth Reason:

"We are to find our rest in Jesus, and Jesus declared Himself to be the Lord of the Sabbath.  Thus the seventh-day of the week is no longer to be kept Holy, because Jesus is our Sabbath Rest (see Matthew 12:8; Matthew 11:28-30)!"

While it is true that all are to find rest in Jesus (rest from all their cares, burdens, anxieties, sins, etc.), and while it is also true that Jesus declared Himself to be the Lord of the Sabbath day, yet it is not correct to therefore conclude that Jesus is the Sabbath day Himself!
The Queen of England is not England herself, but only the sovereign over it.  In like manner, Jesus is not the Sabbath day Himself, but only the Sovereign or Lord over it.  So as we find our rest in Jesus, we must not neglect to also rest from our labors upon His weekly Sabbath day.  And since Jesus is still today the Lord of all His followers, then there is still a Sabbath day which He is Lord of and which all of His followers are to be observing today!  And what day of the week is this Sabbath day of God in this New Covenant period?
"For he (God) spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works....There remaineth therefore a rest (a keeping of the Sabbath) to the people of God. (NOTE: this word for "rest" in Greek is "sabbatismos" and literally translates Sabbath keeping--see Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, Greek word #4520.)  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.  Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief." Hebrews 4:4,9-11.

Thus Paul clearly declares that there is indeed a Sabbath day which all of God's followers are to observe in this New Covenant period, and this day of the week is the same day which God made holy at creation--the seventh-day or Saturday!  Let us heed Paul's counsel and avoid falling from God's grace because of unbelief by not keeping His Sabbath day of rest!

Seventh Reason:

"Paul commanded the church at Corinth to take up a public collection on the first day of the week; therefore, this must have been a day of public worship and consequently is the Christian Sabbath (see 1 Corinthians 16:2)."

Paul, however, does not say: "Place your alms in the church treasury on the first day of the week;" but says: "Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store."
The apostle simply told each of the Corinthian brethren to lay up at home some portion of his weekly gains on the first day or the beginning of the week before they had a chance to spend it all up.  In following Paul's advice, they would be putting God and His cause first in their financial affairs, instead of at the end of the week after all their money had been depleted.

The whole question turns upon the meaning of the expression, "by him."  Two Latin versions, the Vulgate and that of Castellio render the phrase, "apud se,"--"with one's self, at home."  A similar rendering is given in numerous other versions.
The text, therefore, does not prove that the Corinthian church was assembled for public worship on Sunday; but, on the contrary, it does prove that each must be at his own home where he could examine his worldly affairs and lay by himself in store at the beginning of each week as God had prospered him.  If each one would do thus, when the apostle should come, their bounty would be ready and each would be able to present to him what they had gathered.

Eighth Reason:

"No one really knows when the original seventh day of the week falls on.  So each person needs to decide which day of the week they will keep sacred to God as His Sabbath, and Sunday is as good as any other day!"

Yet there has been no time lost since creation took place all the way up to the present time.  So the same seven day weekly cycle established at creation is the same seven day weekly cycle we continue to observe today even though the names of the days of the week have been changed depending on the calendar used!
When the calendar was changed from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar back in the sixteenth century, it was discovered that the Julian calendar was off 10 days from the actual solar year.  But the same weekly seven day cycle was not altered even though 10 days were added to the Gregorian calendar.  Thursday, October 4, 1582 in the Julian calendar, was immediately followed by Friday, October 15, 1582 in the Gregorian calendar--thus keeping the continuity of the Sunday to Saturday weekly cycle!  But even though some will not believe the fact that there has been no time lost since creation, God does indeed show all of His people what day of the week today is the seventh-day of the week--the true Sabbath worship day of God!
When Christ was on this earth, being the Lord of the Sabbath, He definitely knew which day of the week was the ancient seventh-day Sabbath of creation to worship God on.  But since we use a different calendar today than what Christ used, which day of the week in our modern calendar does this seventh-day Sabbath fall upon?  The Bible plainly and clearly shows to all who will see, in the events surrounding the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, exactly which day of the week today is God's holy Sabbath.
The Bible records that Christ was crucified on the sixth day of the week, or the preparation day--the day before the Sabbath was to occur (see Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54; John 19:31, 42; Matthew 27:62), He was resurrected on the first day of the week, or the day after the Sabbath had passed (see Matthew 28:1-8; Mark 16:1-10; Luke 24:1-8; John 20:1), thus showing that Christ was resting in the tomb during the seventh day Sabbath.  It is plain knowledge that Christ arose from the tomb on Sunday morning--which many refer to as Easter (see Acts 12:4).  With this knowledge of truth, it then becomes easy to determine exactly which days of the week in our modern calendar correspond with the days of the week anciently.
As Christ arose on the day we call Sunday today, this day corresponds to the first day of the week anciently--or the day after the Sabbath had passed.  Then the day we call Saturday in our modern calendar, corresponds to the seventh day of the week anciently, and the day we call Friday in our modern calendar, corresponds to the sixth day of the week anciently--or the preparation day before the Sabbath occurs!  Thus all who desire to follow and serve God with their whole heart, mind, soul, and strength, out of love for what He has done and is continuing to do for them, will see that the seventh day Sabbath of God today is Saturday--the day after Friday, and the day before Sunday!  This then plainly shows us that the Sabbath day of God has not changed its seventh place in the weekly cycle since it was made holy at creation, and it never will!
God's Sabbath was established in Eden before sin had entered the world as the seventh-day of creation week (see Genesis 2:2-3).  God re-established the same seventh-day Sabbath after sin had entered the world for all His chosen people to observe and worship Him on, after the Exodus from Egypt--some 2500 years later (see Exodus 20:8-11).  The very same seventh-day Sabbath was observed by Christ and His disciples--some 1500 years afterwards.  The very same seventh-day Sabbath was still to be observed by all of God's people some 33 years after the death of Christ in the New Covenant period (see Hebrews 4:4-11).  And did you realize, that this very same seventh-day Sabbath will continue to be observed after Christ comes again and the earth is made new? (see Isaiah 66:22-23).  This is because the seventh-day Sabbath is a memorial of creation, and will forever point directly to God as our Creator!  You can no more change this seventh-day Sabbath to another day of the week than you can change the day of your birth to another day!  Thus the seventh-day or Saturday--the Sabbath worship day of God, will never change, but will always remain the Sabbath day to worship God on throughout eternity!

May God grant us His Spirit of grace and the strength to serve and worship Him on His chosen Sabbath day of Saturday, and not on Sunday or on any other day of the week.  Thus in doing so, we will show that we serve and worship the true God of creation, and not any other so-called god!

In our next Newsletter (May - June) we will finish examining the rest of the reasons given for Sunday worship.

MINISTRY NEWS

As an evangelistic outreach project, we were impressed to take out an ad in one of our local Newspapers.  We took our study on "The True Church of God" and edited it to fit into a full one page ad.  In order to provide ample coverage for contact, we gave provided a 1-800 number, a postal address, and developed a new website strictly for the world (you can visit it at http://www.TrueChurchofGod.info).  We did this knowing that it was mostly spreading the seeds of truth, but we have received many phone calls and some e-mails in regards to it.  What is surprising is that over 85% of all the response so far received has been very positive, and nearly all of these have requested more information be sent them!  We are still receiving responses, although the amount is decreasing.  We solicit your continued prayers for all who have read that article and especially for those who have requested more information.  If you would like to place this same article as a full page ad in your local Newspaper, and would like to use our contact information or a local address of your own, please let us know.

The Lord is continuing to bless our Web Site!  In the month of January we had 29,253 hits, which were generated by 5,422 visitors, who stayed an average of 17:54 minutes each.  In these Visitor Sessions, 14,503 documents of Present Truth were viewed.  While most of these visitors were from America, we also had visitors from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, France, Mexico, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the United Kingdom.  All our visitors downloaded over 22,563 files, which totalled 1,235,469,000 bits of information!
In the month of February we had 24,820 hits, which were generated by 4,942 visitors, who stayed an average of 13:07 minutes each!  In these Visitor Sessions, 11,170 documents of Present Truth were viewed.  Again, while most of these were from America, there were also visitors from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, France, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the United Kingdom!  Over 19,285 files were downloaded from our Web Site, which totaled 1,048,882,000 bits of information!  So the combined total for these past two months is that over 2.28 billion bits of information were downloaded from our Present Truth Web Site by over 10,300 visitors!  MAY GOD'S HOLY NAME BE PRAISED FOR EVER!!

We have recently finished printing a completely new booklet geared for the world.  It is on the Sabbath/Sunday controversy, and clearly shows how the Protestant churches and people are bowing to the pope by their continued keeping of Sunday as the Sabbath.  After reading this booklet, none will be left ignorant of this issue, and no excuse will be left them if they continue to keep Sunday holy.  The booklets are for a $.80 suggested donation each, and if more than 150 are ordered, they are for a suggested donation of $.30 each.  Please keep this new booklet, as well as all our other printed materials, in your prayers that many more precious souls will be harvested to our Lord.

TO OUR READERS AND SUPPORTERS: Please know that "Let There Be Light" Ministries is not concerned with using your prayers and donations to build itself into a kingdom, but is concerned with getting the Present Truth into the hands of the common people quickly, effectively, and wisely.  Instead of working towards acquiring expensive video and T.V. production equipment, satellite or shortwave facilities, we would rather use the Lord's money in publishing and distributing materials which give the full present truth gospel, as well as supporting many full-time foreign ministers and workers in various countries around the world who have proven themselves to be reliable and stable.  With their monthly support and present truth materials supplied them, these ministers and workers then have the ability to more effectively spread the spoken and printed truth, establish the people in it, and carry this precious truth into the very homes of those who sit in darkness.  This is how the Loud Cry of the third angel will be spread, and is now being spread!  If the Lord so impresses you to help in these endeavors, your donations will be greatly appreciated--not just by this Ministry, but by many others as well!  MAY GOD RICHLY BLESS YOU!

MINISTRY NEEDS

"Let There Be Light" Ministries is devoted to the spreading of the full present truth gospel message worldwide, and has been doing so since 1986.  This Ministry has operating expenses covering the areas of: printing, publishing, and writing of present truth books, booklets, tracts, and other literature; video and audio taping, production, and distribution; supporting several ministers/workers in foreign Countries; mail order--both domestic and foreign; traveling to hold meetings--both locally, nationally, and internationally; answering correspondence and questions regarding the message of truth; offering National and International Bible studies; sending free present truth literature to contacts in many poor Countries; etc.
The Lord's blessings and guidance, along with your gracious prayers and support, is greatly appreciated and needed.  Without such, this Ministry could not continue to reach out worldwide with the precious message of Revelation 14:6-12 & 18:1-5.
May our God and Saviour continue to lead and guide all those who have helped this Ministry reach out to souls who sit in darkness with the precious light of gospel truth.  May our supporters remember that they share in each and every soul who has been reached by this Ministry and converted to the Lord and His present truth!

GENERAL FOREIGN MISSION WORK NEEDS

We are currently supporting several workers in many different Countries on a monthly basis.  We check into the economy of each area and supply a base support which is adequate depending on their situation, but not extravagant.  This base support is to ensure that the monthly needs of each worker and family is adequately met for that month so that the worker may devote full time to the ministry work.  In addition to this, we are sending extra materials for evangelism, and money for printing, publishing, holding meetings, traveling, and other necessary areas in spreading the Present Truth in their Country.  And as the work extends, especially will the expenses for evangelism expand.  Whatever you can send to help in this necessary and vital area is greatly appreciated.
The work of spreading God's present truth is not to be limited, but must extend world-wide, to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people before our Saviour can come (Matthew 24:14).  What better way of spreading the present truth gospel than by having workers who speak the native language, who reside in that particular Country, who can live and preach the truth and visit the interests in their homes, and spread the printed truth translated into their common language!  Please financially help us to continue consistently supporting our current ministers and workers, so that the spreading of the truth can quickly lighten this dark world with the glory of God.

LETTERS to "LET THERE BE LIGHT" Ministries

Dear Bro and Sis Sessler,
Much greetings again!  I am very much happy for your work over there, which you are doing to us here in Kenya.  I have already received another 3 bags of which contains booklets and tracts.  We are now very busy with the work of God to reach many people in different locations.  Some people are eagerly need the present truth messages about falling of churches and some reject the booklet and return them back to us, because it hit direct to what their love.  But we are not discourage with the work of God.  God has His true ones who will hear the call and separate from the Babylon fallen churches.  We believe this happening is to encourage both of us in the missionary work.  It had happened with our Master.  It's only being repeated it's self.  May God continue to bless His work to reach many.
Secondly, to brief you in short, I am in distress financially to make many journeys to meet those who call for our present to share with them--the word of God in their location.  The work is stagnant in one place, due to means of travelling because in my area district.  We are only three families, none of us is capable to support the work full-time.  Therefore I appeal to you often you can see how we could speedy the work in our area also.  I know how you are very committed in different Countries of the world.  I only wanted you to see my situation in consideration.  Thank you...
I remain in the service for the Master.
     B.O., Kenya.

Dear bro. Bob,
     Greetings!
How are you doing?  We are happy to let you know that we are now again working on printing some of your booklets. (Editor's note: May God be praised!)  A new convert whom we have labored for...has translated 3 booklets into the Illonggo dialect.  These are still in handwritten form and we still need to work on them on the computer.
Please know that we believe that God is using you and that you are in our prayers.  We hope to hear from you soon.
     God bless you, W., Philippines.

Dear Bro Bob, & Church,
     Greeting in Jesus precious name.
Thank you so much for Newsletters.  The messages have been a real blessing to my Christian experience.  The series on the "Human Will", and the "Storm is Coming--Are You Willing to Suffer?" prompt me to consider if I'm holding on to any sins....self is the biggest problem that keeps one from surrendering all to the Lord.
I've been praying daily that not as I will, but as Thou will be done.  I need to be prepared to meet my Lord.  I have been applying the 4 keys to successfully overcome--R.P.S.R. and it (has) been a great help.
I praise God for working with your Ministry to reach people who are seeking for the pure truth as it is in Jesus.  How do I know?  I have tried the Spirit, and did not find any errors (or) compromise in your teaching through the word of God....
May God richly bless your Ministry always.
     J.V., Canada.
REF: WE BEG YOUR HELP
Through the mentioned above address, with pleasure we desire to make you know our condition as a people.
We are a small group of believers and have served in a Seventh Day Church for long (time) in Central Province in Kenya.  It is miraculously that we got your copy of "The World Council of Churches and the Seventh-day Adventist Church"...This was after (we had) a great controversy in our church (regarding) on Ellen G. White teachings, e.g. on Presidency (voting), joining hands with Sunday believers on Christmas Eve at Nairobi, here in Kenya, etc.
Now we are wholly in need of your help on (getting) more copies, more on what are your beliefs, and any other help religiously.  If possible your visit to our dark Country (of) Kenya.
Looking forward to come closer to God through your help.
     Your brothers in Christ, Kenya.

Dear Bro. Bob,
     2 Peter 1:5-7; 3 John 2....
Thank you so much for the Great Controversy books that you sent us.  It benefitted others much.
"What the church needs in these days of peril is an army of workers...for want of workers the cause of God languishes..." AA 507.
Last year we have 6 youth trained on doctrinal issues and willing to give themselves to God.  This coming ____ we'll conducting Youth Camp and train others again because we have many youth here now and we see that if they are rightly trained, they can fill the vacant position that others left. (Editor's note, Amen!)  The field is now open and we have to respond to the call....
Let's pray to God for this and may God bless us all as we unitedly advance the cause of God and pray for His coming soon....
     Sister in Christ, C.R., Philippines.

CORRESPONDENCE FROM OUR FOREIGN WORKERS

FROM FIJI ISLANDS

(Combination of 3 letters) Dear Bro Bob,
     1 John 3:1.
May I once again greet you in His wonderful name and thank you very much for the messages that I received from you recently....
The booklet "The Wheat and the Tares" in Fijian is now the cause of (a) shaking taking place in the Saubou Church (SDA) Mission Headquarters in Fiji....As a result a church Elder and about ten other members have left the church and are now fellowshiping at their homes.  I have received more requests for more booklets from the church members....We may have to reprint this booklet to cater for the requests.  The translated "Golden Calf Apostasy" booklet is still laying here waiting to be printed. (Editor's note: Will not someone help in answering this call?  $400 will enable 1000 booklets to be printed.)
I am spending more time in distributing our literatures now days, because I feel the time is very short and the people should be warned.  I visited ____ Town two weeks ago and thousands of tracts, booklets and pamphlets, magazines, etc, etc were distributed.  Last week I visit ____ Town and flooded the town with our literatures.  Everyday I go to the city and my bag is always full.  The peoples know me now and when I meet them and share with them from the word of God, they too always ask for books and booklets.
Two days ago I met a sister of about sixty years old, she is a member at the Assemblies of God church.  We shared the word of God for about three hours and she requested if I could meet her again yesterday.  We met yesterday and we further study for about three hours again.  She admitted that she now knows the truth and she want to meet me again today.  I gave her books and booklets yesterday.  I am sure the Lord will touch her heart and she will join with us very soon....
Bro. Ron arrived in Fiji on the 31st January, and was met at the Airport by brother ____ on Thursday afternoon.  I rang him up and also welcomed him to Fiji and he told me to come and meet him at David's place on Monday....On Monday, I had to travel about 20 miles to meet him and I spent about 4 hours with him before returning home.  He was updating me with what is going on in America and Canada....
Bro. Ron enjoyed very much these visitation and we also discussed the progress of his work...And I am praying that his work in Fiji was not in vain.  Bro Ron is truly a man of God and he has sacrificed a lot in coming all the way from America...I like this man, as if I have known him before, and he has encouraged me a lot to do more work for my Lord....
Thank you very much for the well written and beautiful Newsletter titled "The Storm is Coming, Are You Willing to Suffer?"  It is vitally important for us today.  It awakens minds and strengthens our commitment in serving Him....
The Youth leader in my old SDA church came home to visit me last week, this is not the first time he comes home.  He has been reading our booklets in English and in Fijian and he is now preaching our messages in the church.  They are asking him a lot of questions like where he is getting his sermons from.  He told me that the church did not tell him anything about their rejection of the Righteousness of Christ in 1888.  I have since explain everything to him and gave him a "Righteousness by Faith" book from Jones (and) Waggoner.  He is willing to come out and join us, but I told him to stay on and continue to preach present truth in the church while he can (preach it)...I have given him more materials....
After sending you the report...I have to go to hospital as I was limping very badly and I could not take the pain.  The same pain has swollen up so much, but now it is fixed up once and for all, and I shall make up the time the devil robbed me up.  I am feeling much better now and the wound is feeling well....Please I ask for your prayers. (Editor's note: You are in my prayers every day, as well as all the other workers in this great movement!)...
May God bless you and the Ministries.
Your servant in Christ, B.A., Fiji.

FROM INDIA

(Combinations of 6 letters) Dear elder sessler,
     1 John 3:1.
It was great excitement for me when I saw the Tamil and Hindi booklets in our LTBL website.  Let us thank (God) for the successful web-hosting of Indian site.  The Lord is wonderfully succeeding our efforts in His ministry.
Like this we have to go for Karnataka language printing of booklets soon. (Editor's note: to print 5000 copies is only $750!  Will someone please help meet this expense for the work in India?)  I wait for this opportunity....
Since the SDA people are keenly watching me to hinder the work.  The advocate says to register...The SDA people are started their troubles here also.  They have arranged their camp-meeting near by my house.  They have deputed one pastor to disturb our work....
Let us thank God for the another new home church is established in ____ in the place of brother ____.  He and his family and some of his co-believers have joined with us.  He is doing the translation work of (into the) Telugu language....Let us press together and move forward to the victory of Christ....
Dear brother, I found some precious truth from the book of Councils to the Churches.  It says of the paying of offerings of Freewill offering, Sin pardoning offering, Thank offering.  When I found this truth I confessed my past failure of paying these offerings.  As soon as I received your money I kept this offering moneys separately and (then) started (paying) my expenses.  I could realize the blessings of God immediately.  I went to the medical shop and found that my regular monthly medicines were reduced into 50% of my usual price.  After that when I went to the Fuel gas shop I found the gas connection rate was reduced from Rs 2380 to Rs 2080.  I (also) could help to one of our church member to take their medical treatment.  God is so great and keeping His promise for His children....I am thankful to everyone of our brethren for the prayers they have offered for my son Timothy's recovery of health.  He is fine now....
Last Sabbath we could conclude our studies upon the Daniel 2nd chapter.  The believers said this is more interesting than we learned from SDA church.  They are interested in having this prophetical classes every day.  Every morning our brethren are gathering and learning truth from the prophecies.  The souls should be led to Christ and for salvation is the greatest ministry we are involving now....
Last year we have never had the camp-meeting, for this year we should have to arrange for the camp-meetings in the states of ____, ____, and ____.  You have to spare money for these meetings.  These meetings we can have in ____ and ____ of 2002.  Because this (is) the vacation holidays for all our children and government servants.  We should not miss this chance to conduct camp-meetings, also (it is) very important for our brethren in India....I close it now.
     B.D., India.

FROM KENYA, EAST AFRICA

Dear Bro Bob,
     1 Jn 3:1
Christian greetings from here.  I hope this mail will find you in good health busy in the Lord's business.
Thanks for your response to Nairobi though we did not get (it) while there.  But otherwise, we had met our visitors (brother Gary and Jim) without problem at all.  We had the best of time to share with them as brothers, as though we had know(n) one another so long.
Brother Jim had two good sessions to speak to the people of God on the need for unity under John 17, and this assisted our brethren so much.  The 36 questions of belief did the miracle and some others who have gone them since, are being impressed.  Brother Gary spoke also twice on fundamental pillars and order and organization.  This was one area that had been unclear so much before, praise (God) that even those among us, that had early received the unity message with suspicion that this might (be) a gateway for a hierarchy, went home satisfied.  May God glorify Himself according to His own pleasure through whom He will.  To date we have not received any negative reaction....May God bless His work.
In the Lord's service, I., Kenya.

(Combination of 2 letters) Dear Bob,
General Christian greetings in Jesus' name with much hopes that the Lord is sustaining you well.
First of all, I thank the Lord for the good work which is going on.  The booklets Bible History of Separation, part two have reached.  I met with brother ____ yesterday and he told me that he has received the booklets you sent to him.  Thanks.
I am with brother ____ here at ____ town trying to proof read the translated manuscripts of Protestant History in Kiswahili.  We are fine.
The work is going on well, except that the Spirit of Prophecy books are missing (from) so many people in that when you read a strong statement they think it to be your own things.  There are some new centers where workers are (being) challenged that the booklets have distorted messages, and so become confused because they don't have the books referred (to).  Therefore, please, there is need of those books (SOP).  Another booklet is the translated "The Last Message of Mercy" (in) Kiswahili.  It is needed so...(Editor's note: it only takes $1000. to print 4000 booklets, will someone help us to meet this expense for these dear brethren?)
I am very thankful to our Father in heaven for His great care He took that our visitors...arrived here well.  Their being here was of great great importance to us.  We shared much in regard to the unity, which the Lord prayed for.
Humility is a great thing on the side of God's children.  Their humility was a great lesson to our people in general.  In short we escorted them to the Airport and they went to Uganda yesterday and now we are writing from ____....
     Your brother, N.O., Kenya.

Dear brother Bob,
     1 John 3:1
I hope every thing is well with you.  Grace be with you.  First of all I thank our Lord for His work in this last days.  Thanks for our brothers Jim ____ and Gary ____ who have visited our home land Kenya for the work of God.  The Lord has blessed us more through their visit and stay with us here.  Our people rejoiced more because they were made to confirm their faith in the separation message, and united brethren under John 17.  Yesterday the new center was opened at ____ where I was with brother ____ and ____.  The work is great, but workers are few, pray for more.
Happy to receive booklets of Bible History of Separation, part 1, two bags.  Send more please for they are much needed.  Thanks for the Newsletter which has a lot of comforting message to me personally.  God bless you for this. Isaiah 12:2.

May the Lord bless you for the work you are doing.
     Yours, B.S., Kenya.

FROM MALAYSIA

Jn 17:17
     Greetings from Malaysia.
I'm very much pleased to see some booklets & Bible studies in Chinese are now in your web page.  Praise His name!  Are there many visitors since its first appearance?  So anxious to know!  May those who visit from all over the globe be blessed while reading these present truth.  Amen!
I had finished the input of "Transmutation of 3 Angels' message" a few weeks ago & now anxious looking for a high quality printer for better performance.  Hopefully this will be bought within this week in another town.  I'm now in the process of translating another booklet "The Issue of Tithe" while also busy inputting another booklet "Our Most Important Need Today."
Thanks a lot for the generous gift which allows me to buy a better computer set with some software & other accessories. (Editor's note: and may God bless the dear sister who donated these funds!)  May this be used in His work more efficiently.  Please continue to remember my work here in your prayers.
May our precious Lord continue to guide and bless you and your Ministries too!
     Co-worker in Christ, V., Malaysia.

FROM THE PHILIPPINES

Dear Bro. Bob,
Grace be unto you and peach from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We're very sorry for the lack of communication.  To update you of what is happening in the work here.  Some brethren, especially (a) worker from Grover's group, (came) back to the fold.  Through the work of the Holy Spirit and through the light of truth, these brethren awakened (to the reality) and God freed them from the yoke of bondage. (Editor's note: May God be praised for His merciful kindness!)  Bro. ____, who was with Grover before, make confession and restitution.  We are also waiting for some brethren whom God will wake up.
About our work, there's a man who I met and talk in the bus.  He is a leader of one group of sect here.  We talk a lot especially about our differences in stand of truth.  After that day, I visited him in his place and again shared with him especially about the Sabbath.  He then take me to his relatives and members of the church and gave me opportunity to speak and share the truth.  I saw that they hear new and distinct truth, and I'm praying that God will lighten their mind.
The translation work is going on.  I am on the work of editing those translation that I am working (on), and still studying and practicing how to use the computer effectively.  I have here the translation of the booklet "The Image of the Beast".  I will send it to you this coming days.
Thank you for your continued prayer and support.  May God will still continue to use us in the closing work.  God bless!
     In Christ, B.F.B., Philippines.

FROM TOGO, WEST AFRICA

(Combination of 2 letters) Dear Elder Bob,
It is nice to read the LTBL Newsletters.  I have just received the last issue.  Thanks a lot for efforts at reaching people world-wide with (the) last hour warnings and encouragements.
Dear friend, I hope you are not discouraged at my recent failures to respond to your request for correction or translation on new items.  I am so sorry....since August 28, 2001, when I wrote you about a sickness that attacked me, I have not as yet totally recovered.  I am still suffering a tremendous headache that is constantly interfering with my mental strength.  Take this, whenever I try to do some translation, the headache sets in and that day sleep will go away throughout all the night.  The pain will only stop if I drop the pen.  I am unable to finish all that I started to do on "Our Most Important Need Today."  Recently, February 8, I started to do the correction on "Godhead" and "Fanaticism", but just 10 minutes and the attack sets in so violent, I spent 7 days doing some hydrotherapy, hot foot bath, etc.  I am not as much concerned about money as to see the truth spread....
As I am writing you this, I am feeling much better....I believe that I shall soon regain strength to do the work especially as I have a woman (wife) who really plays the part of a "helper".  I am today much happier with good hope for future glory (in the Lord)....
I am writing this to thank you for the two booklets you've just sent to me (The True Church of God and Why Are Protestants Bowing to the Pope?)....I know you've written great many booklets, and all of them contain precious gems....My special thanks to all those who sustained you in your researches.  These two booklets particularly caught my attention.  They are two volume of books condensed and intelligently written....Immediately I set out translating them.  You will receive them soon. (Editor's note: they have been received, and thank you!)...These two booklets are a strong challenge to the S.D.A. church which has become a barkless church, only preaching smooth and transmuted gospel.
Bob, please tell me, how can we arrange to print these...?  After many years of ministry work here in West Africa, I know these two booklets will help spread the message....I shall make enquiry to see if I could get a cheaper press to print them.  Nowadays, many printing presses have opened up.
Once more my appreciation; Bob, my appreciation.
     Your friend, S., Togo.

FROM UGANDA, EAST AFRICA

(Combination of 2 letters) Dear Elder Sessler,
Precious greetings in the saving name of Jesus....On 13th of January 2002 (we) started the open air meeting.  Attendance has been quite good.  Every evening we presented Jesus--the Lamb of God who alone takes away the sins of the world, not any church or creed.  He alone went on the cross to purchase humanity from impending death...The elderly man and wife who were our hosts....have been the biggest...(pillars)...in the Anglican faith, gladly received the message and many other people have promised to be fellowshipping with him.  He gave a portion of land on temporal basis to be used for setting up a simple chapel.  Somebody else, a lady by the name of ____, has given away a property at nearly 400 US$ (with a) standing semi-permanent house and a piece of land; in case means would be got this would be purchased and turned into a chapel.
Thanks a lot for the tracts God.  3 M-bags and Bible History of Separation, part 1.  Friends, these have been given out on many occasions....
On (the) 17th (we) set off for ____ to meet our visiting Brothers and most of the home churches around our country.  I took the responsibility of transporting 10 souls, to and fro.  The meeting started in the afternoon with Brother James ____ presenting the History of the Christian church, thereafter question answer sessions.  Elder Gary ____ had lost his voice due to the travel in harsh weather, later recovered.  They laboured to bring us under John 17 union, their deep experiences were shared amongst the remnant people of God.  It was a blessing to have our brothers whom we have only known through letters and e-mail.  They were very approachable, patience was shown in all their dealing with us.  We shall always remember their understanding hearts.
While the meetings were taking place, Satan was working through the husband of one (of) the sister (who attended).  This fellow is a Muslim, they worked with (the) leadership of (the) S.D.A. church, (and) they wanted to arrest us (because) they knew we didn't have registration certificate.  But God was on our side, nothing was done to that end....
Once again, thanks for the 2 M-bags with Bible History of Separation, pt 2, and the support.  It would have been very difficult for us (without it).  On this note, may our heavenly Father bless the hands and pockets who have stood (with) us.  Amen.
Yours in (the) blessed Saviour, H.K., Uganda.

FROM ZAMBIA, CENTRAL AFRICA

(Combinations of 2 letters) Greetings with Isaiah 62:1.
The Lord God is always with us though things seems to be against us.  My dear Elder, if there is a year in my missionary work which has proved to be so hard and when I have undergone hardships, 2001 had been the worst.  But I praise God because He is still with me.  I now understand why God mentions it through Jesus, that the more the truth acquired the more the devil is against.  Thank you, for your prayers and other brethren's.
Elder Robert, the past three months has been so hard for me.  The situation has been that the more the materials were being distributed, the more some of the family members are in trouble by sickness.....Brethren, this very hardships has been a very good experience to me and my family members.  Consequently I praise God because I could have encouragements from brother ____ who is now frequently (at) our home office to see how we could work in times of this kind.  More help has been coming from Elder ____ who is heading the ____ Home Church.  Though Job 14:1-2 has it to fulfill the current situation, but Psalms 46:1-2 gives more encouragements.
I praise God that though things appeared as if our supports were not going to continue, but thank you, Elder Robert, you couldn't let us down, but instead (sent) the little you could did come to us.  Also I praise God for the last message of mercy continues (to) flow (to others).  Please God be with you and the group with you....
Elder Robert, time has come for the truth to reach every willing soul.  I gave some tracts to a Sunday keeper man who told me he had distributed all to his church and the members were very happy and they need more....
The translation work and the distribution of our tracts has been the great major (area) for this month.  Praise God to bless me with these small children who have been busy doing this work of tract distribution.  Out of the three M-bags I received recently we have almost nothing (remaining).  Please send more....
Secondly, I want to praise God for the great blessing of allowing pastor Gary ____ and elder Jim ____ to come and visit our home church leaders and members.  Thank you God again for having our elders, brothers and sisters from ____ homes churches and ____ homes to come and attend this great meeting which was held at ____ home church.  The pastor (Cain and elder Jim) presented healthful lessons to our souls even on unity under John 17.  Praise God because all the people who attended this meeting enjoyed the lessons which was given under the Spirit...This thing gave a very good picture of how you are working under the order of God.  It was really a good challenge due to this spirit of (John 20:24-25) which other member had.
Alternately, ____ and I gave them the all full report on our evangelism programmes.  We appreciate for their coming and for your endorsement to allow them (to) meet us.  We also appreciate for the support you gave us, this did a lot especially to our visitors from ____ and ____ and their support helped us to cover all their lodging and transport system together with food....Sorry for the disturbance made to them (Gary and Jim) at our International Airport by the police, which made them to miss the flight at the exact time, though I feel (bad) on this issue....
     God bless you, W.S., Zambia.
