GOD'S  HOLY  WORD  quotes

1)    What are the sacred writings of the Bible commonly known as?

     "Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the Scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?" Matthew 21:42.


     -- What other title is given to these sacred scriptures?
     "And He answered and said unto them, My mother and My brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it." Luke 8:21.


     These Sacred Scriptures are to be read "not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God" 1 Thessalonians 2:13.





2)     Can we fully trust these inspired words of God?

     "He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He." Deuteronomy 32:4.

     “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” Psalms 12:6.





3)     How were these Scriptures and this word of God given?

     "All scripture is given by inspiration of God..." 2 Timothy 3:16.

     "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets." Hebrews 1:1.

     "The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and His word was in my tongue." 2 Samuel 23:2.


     -- Who were these prophets that were inspired by God the Holy Spirit to write these Scriptures down?

     "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." 2 Peter 1:21.





4)     What purpose were these Scriptures given?

     “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...” Hosea 4:6.

     "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalms 119:105.

     "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope." Romans 15:4.


     -- What is the main theme of the Scriptures?

     "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He (Jesus Christ) expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself....And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning Me." Luke 24:27, 44.


     -- What can we learn from Scripture?

     "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."  2 Timothy 3:16-17.

     "...the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:15.





5)     Can we understand God’s word by our own mental ability?

     “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5.

     “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  2 Peter 1:20.

     “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” Mark 7:21-23.

     “He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool”. Proverbs 28:26.





6)     We are all fallen and sinful in nature, and therefore we cannot understand God’s word with our own private foolish mental interpretation without outside help.  So whose specific help do we need?

     “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance...” John 14:26.

     “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.  A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.  And I will put my spirit within you”. Ezekiel 36:25-27.

     “...when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth...” John 16:13.





7)     Once God cleanses us and gives us His Holy Spirit, then how are we to regard these inspired words of God that we read in the Scriptures?

     "Neither have I gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food." Job 23:12.

     “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4.

     "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15.

     "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts." 2 Peter 1:19.


     If we do study, follow and live by God’s word and commandments, then what will happen?

     "Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God." Proverbs 2:3-5.

     “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God...” John 7:17.





8)     God’s holy word is comprised of 39 books of the Old Testament, and 27 books of the New Testament, making a total of 66 sacred books of Scripture.  But it has been some 4000 years since the earliest prophets wrote their books contained in the Old Testament, and some 2000 years since the prophets of the New.  How do we know that the Holy Scriptures were not just for those people living back when these prophets wrote these words of God?

     "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand forever." Isaiah 40:8.
     "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away." Matthew 24:35.

     “The words of the Lord are pure words...Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” Psalms 12:6-7.


     These Scriptures therefore become a standard for determining what is truth, and what is error in all ages.

     "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." Isaiah 8:20.


     -- The Bible was written for us today, and not just for those living back at the time when these prophetic writers penned God’s word!  These holy Scriptures are present truth for you and me!

     “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7.

     “But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known... what shall be in the latter days.” Daniel 2:28.
