THE  PARABLE  OF  THE  TALENTS  quotes
by Sean Sessler

1)     Matthew 25:14-30

Verse 14: For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far counrty, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
Who is the man that is being talked about here?  That would be Jesus Christ.  And the far counrty would represent what?  That would be Heaven.  So before Christ went back to his Father, Jesus gave talents unto His people.

2)    Verse 15: And unto one he (or Christ) gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his serveral ability; and straightway took his journey.

Each individual on this earth has talents that God gave them: some have five, some have two, others even have just one.  So it is a choice for us to either use these precious talents or gifts that God gave us, or it is our choice to waste them.

3)   Verse 16: Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

So when a person of God uses his/her talents for good, what happends?  They receive a good reward when Christ comes again.  So by using these gifts/talents to God's glory, you will receive a blessed reward.

4)    Verse 17: And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

This child of God gained more gifts from God than just the original two: he/she gained two more, which makes four.  So the more that you tell people about God's love for them, the greater your light shines.  This is the same with the wick: when you start triming sin out of your life, what happends?  Your light for Christ grows brighter.  So spread the word of God far and wide, brothers and sisters.

5)   Verse 18: But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

This person did not use his/her talent for the glory of God, but wasted it on his/her own glory -- which is vain glory.

6)     Verse 19: After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

So at the end of this world's history, Christ and His angels are going to reckon with all the people on this earth, by investigating into their lives to see how they have used their gifts/talents for God's glory, or for there own glory.

7)    Verse 20: And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

This tells us that each person, if they are faithful in little things, will gain more gifts/talents to the glory of God.

8)    Verse 21: His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things, enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

So if in this investigation into our lives it is shown that we have used God's gifts/talents appropriately, what will be our reward?  We will be able to enter into the joy of our Lord.  Or in other words, heaven becomes our home.

9)    Verse 22: He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

This person used his/her gift or talents to the glory of God, and gained more talents or gifts by doing so.  So if we do the same, brothers and sisters, we will also be entering into the joy of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

10)    Verse 23: His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things, enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

The reward given for faithfully using the less amounts of talents was the same reward given the one who used a greater amount of talents.  This reveals that it doesn't matter how many talents/gifts God gives us, as long as we use them all for His glory.  If faithful, we all will be saved!

11)    Verses 24-25: Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

This shows us that this individual knew all about their Lord.  But instead of trusting in their Lord, they became afraid.  This fear led them to bury their one talent/gift in the earth.  And what does it mean to bury our talent in the earth?  It means using it for our own earthly or selfish glory, instead of for the glory of God.

12)    Verse 26: His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

This shows us that if we are afraid to use our gifts/talents for God's glory, but instead bury them in the earth for our own selfish glory, then how does God view us?  He views us as wicked and slothful servants!

13)    Verse 27: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

This reveals that in this investigation, Christ is expecting to see that the gifts/talents He gave to each of us have increased and that we have not buried them in the earth, but have used them for His glory and not our own.  This increasing in talents reveals that we are to grow in grace brothers and sisters, not by slothfully sitting idly by and letting our light fade moment by moment, but by doing active service for our Lord Jesus Christ.

14)    Verse 28: Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

This shows us that depending on what the investigation into our life reveals, will be the judgment decided.  So if we do not use are talents wisely, then they will be taken from us, and given to others whom God can trust to use them for His glory.

15)    Verse 29: For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance, but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

So depending on what this investigative judgment finds, will be the sentence given, whether good or bad.

16)    Verse 30: And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So we are to use our gifts/talents to Gods glory and not our own, because if we use them for our own glory; then we will be unprofitable and unfit for heaven, brothers and sisters, and we will then be cast into outer darkness.
